Rudy Barnes

CAPRON – Rudolph G. Barnes, 74, passed away December 12, 2013. He was finally reunited with the love of his life, Shirley. A native of South Carolina, he was a son of Mozelle Boykins Barnes and the late Ray Leslie Barnes. Rudy was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Pope Barnes. He was a loving father and grandfather and his family was truly the motivation of his life. Rudy was a retired Roll Finishing Supervisor for International Paper and a Navy veteran. He was an avid gardener and cook, enjoying the great outdoors with a special emphasis on fishing and rabbit hunting.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Sonya Kay Smith, and her husband, Donald, of Capron; two sons, Dexter Topping, of Franklin and Timmy Topping of Capron; four grandchildren, Brandon and Kyle Topping and Trista and Talon Smith; one sister, Linda Miller, and two brothers, Arthur Barnes and Wandell Barnes, all of South Carolina.

A graveside funeral will be held at 2 PM Monday, December 16, 2013 at Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Sonya and Donald’s residence at 26004 Meherrin Road, Capron and suggest memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
