RICHMOND – Jule Edmund Bolio, the ultimate gentleman and advertising executive, passed awayWednesday afternoon December 11, 2013.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Nancy Hargrave Nagle Bolio of Richmond; and his daughter, Lisa Bolio Swenson; son-in-law, Dr. Randolphe P. Swenson Jr.; two grandchildren, Schuyler and Perry of Englewood, Colo. Rosemary Bolio, his wife of 40 years and mother of their daughter, Lisa, predeceased him in 1988. Jule grew up happily in Arkansas and loved to relate his memories of being a young newspaper carrier and then later an acolyte at the Fort Smith St. John’s Episcopal Church. Interested in airplanes and photography he organized a model airplane club in junior high school and became editor and photographer for his college year book. His love of flying continued during WWII as he navigated P61 Black Widow Airplanes during the war as 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp. After the war he graduated from the University of Arkansas and the Northwestern School of Financial Public Relations. He began his advertising career at Sears, Roebuck and Company in Georgia, and then moved to Richmond in 1954 as advertising manager. He became advertising director for First and Merchant’s Bank and then became president of the Richmond office of Brand Edmunds Bolio. He received in 1971 Richmond Advertising Person of the Year Award. His advertising career continued with the Virginia Division of Tourism and the Strategic Marketing Associates. Jule was involved in many professional and civic activities and was past president of the Advertising Club of Richmond and the Richmond Public Relations Association. He was past director of the Richmond Better Business Bureau, the YMCA, the American Red Cross, Goodwill Industries and on the board of Catholic Charities of Virginia and the Virginia Thanksgiving Festival. Jule was a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. He was a long time member of Willow Oaks Country Club, where he shared his love of golf with his many good friends both on and off the course. Jule helped establish the Benning-Keller Endowment Fund at the Fort Smith Campus of University of Arkansas in honor of his mother-in-law, Olive Keller. He was always deeply caring for his family and touched the hearts of many. He loved his canine friends, Rufus, Pokey, Maggie, Gidget and OPIE. The family wishes to thank Ashley Waldron, staff manager, and her staff at Cedarfield Special Care Memory Unit for their compassionate care where he lived for almost one year. A celebration of life for Jule will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 3 p.m. in Cedarfield Hermitage Fellowship Hall, 2300 Cedarfield Lane, Richmond, Va. 23233. Inurnment will be private.
