COURTLAND—A Newsoms man accused of several drug-related charges this past summer was granted another continued motion of defense on Thursday, which puts his next court appearance at Tuesday, Jan. 14, in Southampton County Circuit Court.

Kyle Lee Thorpe, 29, is expected to be formally charged then, barring any further continuations. Thorpe, of the 34000 block of Monroe Road, was one of two arrests made July 17 in connection with a May 28 seizure of 99 marijuana plants found in Newsoms.

The charges that Thorpe is expected to face are conspiring to sell and distribute five pounds or more of marijuana, two counts of the sale and distribution of marijuana and a drug sale on or near school property or a library.

Another Newsoms man connected to the case, Joel Hedgepeth, is scheduled to have his sentencing on Thursday, Jan. 16. Formerly of the 22000 block of Linden Street, Courtland, Hedgepeth, 28, had pleaded guilty to four counts of selling and distributing marijuana and a drug sale on or near school property or a library.

Another of his charges is the possession of a gun with the sale of one pound or more of marijuana.

A day after they had been charged and arrested in July, a bond of $25,000 was made for each man.
