Thanksgiving week a time to remember

At this point, it’s become cliché to say something to the effect that “You should be thankful for every day, not just on Thanksgiving.”

On Facebook, if you have one, your newsfeed is probably filled up with people posting something they are thankful for every day in the month of November.

And that’s certainly a worthy and humbling exercise to go through every year, as it reminds us of the good things in life. Sometimes it can be easy to focus on the negative, and we in the media, even The Tidewater News, are guilty of this. Though we do try our best to make sure every newspaper has plenty of positive events going on in the community. Even though those upbeat stories are always there, it does seem like every crime, every story pointing out problems simply have more weight.

But there is a lot of good out there in Western Tidewater.

For all the negative stories out there on the Franklin School District, there are teachers out there going into overdrive to make it better.

Even with the crime, the local law enforcement has a great track record of catching the criminals.

For every family that can’t celebrate this holiday season with a feast, there are organizations that make sure these families will have something.

These reasons, and more, are why we are thankful to live in Western Tidewater.
