BEAR GRASS – Mrs. Betty G. Coker, 63, passed away Monday, November 18, 2013 in Richmond, Virginia.

The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 am in the Christian Chapel Church of Christ at Church Crossroads, officiated by her pastor, Rev. Kirk Honican. Burial will follow in Martin Memorial Gardens.

Betty lived all her life in the Bear Grass community. She began working for Carolina Telephone when she was a junior in high school and retired as a supervisor from Embarq after 30 years of service. She was a member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School for a number of years and was active with the women of the church.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Annie Gurganus; a brother, Jerry Gurganus; and her husband, David Coker.

She is survived by her son, David Lee Coker; brothers, William G. Gurganus, Jr., of Robersonville, Harold Dean Gurganus and wife, Belinda, of Chesterfield, VA and

Edward Earl Gurganus and wife, Lois, of Franklin, VA;several aunts and uncles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 pm at the church and other times at her home.
