FRANKLIN—Good times have a price tag, and Christmas parades are no exception.

The City of Franklin and the Downtown Franklin Association, which are sponsoring the downtown holiday event, are requiring a $10 entry fee of organizations that want to include their floats or just march along; the charge is $25 after Friday, Nov. 15.

This is done to offset the costs, said Leesa Livesay, who’s serving as a parade coordinator seeking entries.

Barricades and security for the parade, which is set for Friday, Dec. 6, cost about $2,000, Livesay said. She added that even replenishing candy and decorations can be expensive. The price ranges from $3,500 to $4,000 to cover the experience.

As Livesay sees it, the fee is nominal. More importantly, participating in the parade she said is, “good advertising for a business, church or social group. It’s a good way to get more noticed by the public.”

Late entries will be accepted to Monday, Dec. 2.

The lineup begins at 5:30 p.m. on the day of the parade, which starts at 7 p.m.

The parade theme is “Best Christmas Tree Ever.”
