CHESAPEAKE—In an incident dating back to August 2013, multiple Franklin teenage girls are facing sexual battery charges, and one has been arrested after an investigation by the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Chesapeake office, said Sgt. Michelle Anaya, spokesperson for the VSP.

The victims in the incident, which occurred in Northampton County, are also female teenagers.

A 17-year old was arrested on Oct. 22 for one count of animate sexual penetration, aggravated sexual battery, attempted animate object sexual penetration and sexual battery, Anaya said.

Five additional females from Franklin have also been petitioned through Northampton County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, she added. Two of these teenagers have each been charged with one count of animate object sexual penetration, aggravated sexual battery, attempted animate object sexual penetration and sexual battery. The remaining three teens were charged with animate object sexual penetration and sexual battery. All five teens, ranging from age 14 to 17, were released on a summons.

The Virginia State Police declined to comment further because this is an ongoing investigation involving juveniles.

Likewise, Franklin Public School Superintendent Dr. Michelle Belle would not comment further because the incident involves a confidential student matter.

“We have followed through with the FCPS disciplinary procedures with regard to this incident,” said Belle.
