FRANKLIN—All good ghouls in the city are invited to Downtown Franklin’s annual Trick or Treat this Halloween, Oct. 31.

“Businesses will be handing out candy from 5 to 6 p.m. for children ages 12 and under,” said Dan Howe, executive director of the Downtown Franklin Association, which has been sponsoring the event.

“It’s been going on for as long as I can remember,” Howe said. “I think it’s well over 20 years. One time there was a costume party. Maybe in the future we’ll try again.”

Black-and-orange bows will be placed at participating businesses, or whoever’s handing out the candy, he said.

Just as the youngsters will be dressed in costumes, so too will the Franklin DECA students who are assisting, such as getting children safely across the street.

“They’re really good about that,” added Howe.

He said attendance is typically several hundred at the trick-or-treating.

“Last year was just huge and they just kept coming,” he said. “It’s nice to have a safe environment for your kids to trick and trick.”

Howe also expects at least one church to be present for a trunk-or-treat. Elsewhere, these are the times for trick-or treating Thursday in the following areas. Only children 12 and under are permitted

Isle of Wight: Generally no set time, but goes by whatever Windsor implements

Windsor: 5 to 8 p.m.

Franklin: 5 to 8 p.m.

Southampton County: Individual towns can set their own hours.

Boykins: 5 to 8 p.m.

Ivor: 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“We’re looking for a big night,” said Ivor Mayor Sandy Vick.
