To the Editor:

Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Auxiliary will be distributing Buddy Poppies in select areas of Franklin, Southampton and Isle of Wight on Nov. 8, 9 and 10. According to Commander James Dimmer, VFW by-laws state that the proceeds must be used to the benefit of disabled and needy veterans and the widows and orphans of deceased veterans.

In 1923, VFW became the first veteran organization to promote a nationally organized campaign for the annual distribution of poppies, which are assembled today by disabled veterans. More than 14 million poppies are assembled today. and VFW and Ladies Auxiliary members raise more than $15 million annually for our veterans, widows and orphans. With the influx of new veterans returning from war, your help is needed now more than ever.

What better way to help in the community than by distributing this little flower of remembrance. We encourage everyone to stop by and get a Buddy Poppy to help honor the memory of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice of defending our nation.
