Support your local festival

What are you doing this weekend? No need to guess. We’ll tell you.

You’re going to the third annual PumpkinFest in Boykins.

That’s right, you are.

We know this for the following reasons: First, because it’s Boykins, and you all the know the importance of supporting your communities through the countless – but worthy – concerts, dinners, craft shows, fundraisers, you name it. Second, there’ll be pumpkins (duh).

Third, the event is designed with families in mind. So there’ll be plenty for children, as well as adults.

Denise Bynum, chairwoman for the second year, promises everything will be “bigger and better.”

Like her and her crew, we’re also counting on the sun to shine by Saturday. It’s got to come out sometime, so why not then? But if the skies are cloudy all day, just bring an umbrella. The pumpkins won’t melt and neither will you.

As we mentioned last week, there are plenty of opportunities in our backyard for culture and fun, if the two could be said to be exclusive. So why miss the chance to meet your friends, make new ones and have a good time?

See you there.

Presented by the Boykins Main Street Initiative and the Town of Boykins, the festival will last from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visit www.BoykinsVirginia.com for more information.
