SMITHFIELD-William D. “Billy” Jones, Jr., born August 30, 1949, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Douglas and Mary K. Jones. Billy is survived by his son, Karl D. Jones and daughter-in-law, Dana S. Jones and grandson, Brayden L. Jones who reside in Courtland; his daughter, Megan Jones and grandson, Eli K. Vaughan, who reside in Windsor; and the mother of his children, Sharon N. Jones.

Billy was born in Newport News and was a resident of Isle of Wight County for 37 years. He was employed at Newport News Shipyard for over 40 years, and was known by his co-workers as “Broadway” Jones. His friends and co-workers at the shipyard said that “Broadway” always bragged about his children and grandchildren and was very proud of them. He was always doing things for family.

Billy was a very quiet and private person. He was known to be a big Virginia Tech fan. He was a member of the Isle of Wight Ruritan Club and a member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church in Zuni, Virginia.

A visitation will be from 6:30-8pm on Tuesday, October 8, at Colonial Funeral Home. A graveside services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, October 9 at Central Hill Cemetery in Windsor, Virginia.
