FRANKLIN—The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office tracked down a vehicle, which was at a suspected burglary, to the Walmart parking lot in Franklin, said Gene Drewery, SCSO spokesman.

The sheriff’s office had people on the lookout for the car, a burgundy Ford Fusion, through postings in the media. A person called in that a car matching the description had been seen heading north from Como, N.C.

Officers were dispatched and they charged Robert Settles, 32, of Boones Bridge Road, Como, with three counts of burglary and three counts of grand larceny for the burglaries on Sept. 25 in Southampton County.

Carretta Bunch, 31, also of Boones Bridge Road, was also charged with three counts of burglary and three counts of grand larceny in the Southampton burglaries.

Settles is in the Southampton County Jail with no bond, while Bunch is in the Hertford County, N.C., jail. Her bond is unknown at this time.

Deputies continue to investigate if these individuals were involved in other burglaries in the two jurisdictions.

This is in regard to break-ins that occurred in the Newsoms area. One happened Sept 25 in the 34000 block of Monroe Road, said Drewery, who added that no one was home at the time. Jewelry was reportedly stolen. Another burglary occurred sometime from 9 to 10 a.m. that day in the 30000 block of Smith’s Ferry Road. Jewelry and prescription medicine were listed as taken.

Southampton officials heard from Hertford County authorities of two break-ins earlier this week in their territory. A vehicle matching the aforementioned description was seen in a yard earlier in northern Hertford, not too far from the Southampton break-ins.

A residence in the 17000 block of Cary’s Bridge Road was burglarized sometime from 8 to 10:10 a.m. Sept. 20, according to Drewery.

Entry was gained through a window at the back of the house, he said, and added that a television, a Wii gaming system and two shotguns were taken.

Two days prior, a neighbor’s game camera photographed a vehicle the same color as the one seen in the area at the time of the break-in.
