Bulldogs take a bite out of Dukes

The Brunswick High Bulldogs rolled into Windsor and never looked back as they rolled over the Dukes 46-10. With a successful on-side kick at the opening kick of the game, Brunswick reached the goal line with only two minutes and 8 seconds used up on the clock with a 6 yard touchdown pass by Bulldogs quarterback Darren Owens. With a successful extra point, they took an early lead of 7-0 and never gave up the lead. Brunswick scored their next TD with 49 seconds left in the first quarter on a quarterback keeper by Owens. The next score was tallied by the Bulldogs with 10:08 left in the second quarter on a 3 yard run by Jamari Stith. The extra point made the score 21-0 in favor of Brunswick.
On the ensuing kickoff, Windsor’s Donovan Cosbert scored on a 65 yard TD run right up the middle. The extra point was good, and the Dukes appeared back in the game, narrowing the score at 21-7. On Brunswick’s next possession, the Dukes forced a fumble on their own 39-yard line but could not capitalize. With 3:36 left in the half, Bulldog quarterback Darren Owens scored another rushing TD on an 8-yard scramble up the middle. The extra point was no good as the high snap was fumbled. On their next possession, the Dukes fumbled on their first play on offense, and Brunswick’s QB Owens scored again on an 11 yard TD run. The extra point failed and the score was 33-7. The Dukes fumbled again on their own 25 yard line with 16 seconds left in the first half, and the Bulldogs scored with an 11-yard pass from Owens to Quantrel Hardy. The extra point failed, leaving the score at the half 39-7 in favor of the Bulldogs.
The Dukes would answer in the second half with a successful onside kick, which was recovered by the Dukes’ Donovan Cosbert at the 50 yard line. They were able to take advantage with a 34 yard field goal, which would be their final score of the night. The Dukes attempted another onside kick with a lob to midfield recovered by Brunswick. The Bulldogs managed one more TD with 15 seconds left in the 3rd quarter on a TD run by Haywood Townes, followed by a successful extra point. With the 4th quarter remaining scoreless, the final score was 46-10 in favor of the Bulldogs.
Brunswick High was credited with 289 rushing yards, 50 passing yards, 5 rushing touchdowns and 2 passing touchdowns. Quarterback Darren Owens went 3 for 9 passing with 2 touchdown passes and 3 rushing touchdowns.
Windsor High School was gained 119 rushing yards, 84 passing yards, 1 rushing touchdown and 0 passing touchdowns. Quarterback Lance Sexton was credited with 9 for 26 passing attempts resulting in 84 yards and 1 interception. The Dukes had 2 fumbles and 10 first downs. They travel next Friday to Sussex Central.
