FRANKLIN—As if the donation of 132 book bags weren’t enough, the faculty and staff at S.P. Morton Elementary set up what Principal Dr. Debbie Rollins called a “Prep Rally.”

Parents of new and returning students walked around the gymnasium’s interior where several tables were set up. At the entrance, Rollins welcomed them and handed out information they’d need to know for the new school year. She invited all the adults, such as Yanna Vincent, to sign up for possible volunteer opportunities.

Several feet away, reading specialists Laura Vick and Shawn Geary greeted the youngsters and talked about favorite stories. Books were given away to many of the students.

Information about Internet safety, the gifted child program, healthy eating and the PTA were also offered.
