FRANKLIN – Mary Louise Powell, 84, went home to be with the Lord September 2, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Mattie Gayle and Willie J. Powell. She was predeceased by four sisters and three brothers.

Mary loved the Lord, her church, her family and she lived her faith. She grew up in Oakland Christian Church and was a longtime member of Virginia Beach Community Church. Mary started working at C&P Telephone as an operator and retired as the business office manager from AT&T after 39 yrs of service.

Survivors include her sister, Julia Pope of Suffolk; brother Russell L. Powell, Sr. and wife, Emily of Franklin, VA; many nieces and nephews; and special extended family, Debbie Durren and her daughters, Kristen Douglas and Melissa Durren.

A funeral service will be conducted in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, VA 23434 on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 11 AM by the Rev. Larry Shoaf, with burial in Newman Memorial Cemetery in Chuckatuck.
