New features set for publication

This fall, The Tidewater News is introducing three new regular features we hope our readers will find enjoyable:

Player of the week

Beginning this Friday night, high school football is in full swing in Western Tidewater, as four out of our five area teams will be in action (the Franklin Broncos have the week off), and it will be the perfect time to kick off our new player of the week award.

Each week this fall, high school coaches will submit a nominee to be recognized as the area player of the week. Staff members of The Tidewater News, with the help of our readers, will select the player deserving of being called the player of the week.

Readers can participate in our special player of the week online poll on Mondays and Tuesdays to cast your vote, and look for Wednesday’s issue to find out who we announce as the winner.

Fix it

Have a pothole on your street that isn’t being repaired? Is there a broken swing in your community park that needs fixing? Is there a property in your neighborhood that is overgrown or unsightly because the owner isn’t keeping up?

Let The Tidewater News know, and we’ll let our readers know what it took to get your issue resolved. Send us an email at fixit@tidewaternews.com, and let us know what you see that needs to be fixed.

The Dart

It’s easy to report the news that always manages to find its way to us, whether a crime is committed or a public figure does something outrageous. But the stories that make our communities so unique are the ones that often go untold, and we want to tell them.

Each week, a member of our staff will throw a dart at the map, and if it lands on your street, well, we’re coming to talk to you! So if The Tidewater News comes knocking on your door, let us know what makes someone in your home or neighborhood special or different, and we’ll tell our readers all about it.
