William H. Turnbull

FRANKLIN- William, H. Turnbull, (Bill), 71, passed away July 30, 2013. Bill was born January 22, 1942 to Billy Turnbull and Alice Rigney Turnbull in Pittsylvania County, VA. He was raised in the Gretna, Virginia area and, also, lived in and enjoyed Pennsylvania, Nebraska, and other parts of Virginia. He graduated from Gretna High School having lettered in Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track. He went on to serve in and be Honorably Discharged from the United States Air Force. He then attended the University of South Carolina earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and where he met the love of his life, Patricia Louise Smart.

He and his wife Pat raised two children and lived in the Richmond area and in Hanover County, VA. Bill had a very successful career in Banking and Finance. He greatly enjoyed watching sports, reading, traveling, listening to Doc Watson and Delbert McClinton, and drinking “bad beer and good whiskey”.

Bill was predeceased by his wife, Pat, and his father, Billy. He is survived by his mother, Alice, daughter, Elicia and her husband, Jay, of Murfreesboro, NC, and son, Matt Turnbull and his wife, Sallie, of Central, SC. He is, also, survived by three grandchildren, John, Claire, and Will, also of Murfreesboro.

A service will be held at Liberty Christian Church in Penhook, VA during the fall of 2013 with details to be posted nearer the time.
