Broadway and television actor Hal Linden will visit Southampton County at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, for the Franklin-Southampton Concert Association.
COURTLAND—A child prodigy, a vocal quartet, the symphony, a musical trio, a Broadway actor and a Big Band orchestra are scheduled to perform in Western Tidewater this concert season.
Bringing another year of entertainment is the Franklin-Southampton Concert Association.
“We’re constantly looking at what is around and through people we have contacts with who provide entertainment,” said Nancy Rowe, FSCA president.
“A representative from Live Onstage comes to us and actually tells us about their offerings. The board gets together and discusses it to find something for everybody.”
Speaking of which, here’s the schedule:
• Umi Garrett, 11, will perform on the pia
no at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13.
• The newest lineup of The Diamonds, which originally began in the 1950s, will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.
• The Virginia Symphony, which is led by JoAnn Falletta, musical director, will present The Holiday Pops concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12. This appearance is sponsored by The Camp Foundation.
• The Walter Noona Trio features Noona at the piano, Greg Hanson on electric guitar and Ralph Copley, percussionist. They’ll play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29.
• An Evening with Hal Linden will feature the Tony Award-winning actor at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26. He’s also known for his role as the police precinct captain on the television series, “Barney Miller.”
• The Glenn Miller Orchestra, founded by the late Glenn Miller, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 6.
All concerts will take place in the auditorium of Southampton High School, 23350 Southampton Parkway, Courtland.
Among the people looking forward to this lineup is board member Bill Vick, who said that he handles a lot of behind-the-scenes work. He’s been involved with the concert association for six to seven years after having been invited to serve on the board.
“We’ve been to concerts for years,” Vick said about he and his wife, Eunice. “We’ve just had some fantastic concerts. The Lettermen probably was my favorite group.
“We just have varied types of entertainment. It’s going to be a good concert series. Lots of people in the community are looking forward to it.”
Season subscriptions cost $50 per adult and $10 per student. Special giver options range from the donor level of $70 to benefactor at $1,000 or more.
