Boykins – William Reginald “Nuke” Kirkland, 85, passed away August 9, 2013. A native of Boykins, VA, he was a son of the late Robert E. and Pauline Fuller Kirkland. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elna Tomlin Kirkland, and two brothers, Robert Kirkland, Jr. and John Calvin “Johnny Buck” Kirkland. Mr. Kirkland was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a veteran of the Merchant Marines. He was a 1957 graduate of Virginia Tech (VPI) and was a member and deacon of Boykins Baptist Church. He was a general sales manager for Ralston Purina retiring after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Boykins Lions Club and the Boykins American Legion.

Survivors include his loving daughters, Kay K. Cloutier and husband, Al, of Coatesville, PA, Jill Annette Kirkland of Wake Forest, NC and Kathy Jo Edwards and husband, Drew, of Branchville; six grandchildren, Megan L. Cloutier, Morgan A. Cloutier, Tyler W. Cloutier, G. Andrew Edwards, III, Cody K. Edwards, and Ann Jackson Edwards; one sister, Katherine K. “Kitty” Futrell and husband, Milton, of Courtland and one brother, Ollie Wayne “Mutt” Kirkland, of Boykins.

The funeral will be 11 AM Tuesday, August 13, at Boykins Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Bunn officiating. Burial will follow in Beechwood Cemetery. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 PM Monday evening at Wright Funeral Home, Boykins. The family will receive friends at the residence and suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Boykins Baptist Church or Boykins Fire Department and Rescue Squad. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
