ISLE OF WIGHT—A report on the first year of the iPad Initiative at Isle of Wight County schools will be discussed when the school board meets Thursday, Aug. 8. This is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the board room of the courthouse, 17124 Monument Circle, Isle of Wight.

Assistant Superintendent Laura Abel and members of the Instructional Team will give an update on the surveys of students, parents and teachers.

There were three parts to the process. First was an online survey that had open-ended questions and multiple-choice. There were 694 students, 42 teachers and 139 parents who responded.

Second, face-to-face focus group meetings were also held with students, teachers and parents.

Third was an analysis of data from IT records, classroom observations and frequently asked questions from various parent and community meetings.

Distribution of iPads was done last November, and 1,714 students use them. There are 126 for the teachers.

Other issues for the board include:

Elective Fees for fiscal year 2013-14

Revision to the IWCS Local Plan for the Education of the Gifted

Relocation of the New Direction Alternative Center

New principal performance evaluation system
