A Virginia Beach school bus headed to Wakefield crashed near Ivor this morning

IVOR—Thirty-seven people were on board for a school bus accident near Ivor this morning.

Three children were injured in the accident and were transported to Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk. None of the injuries are life threatening, said Major Gene Drewery, spokesman for the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., a bus driver reportedly lost control of the bus on Highway 460 near the 33000 Block of General Mahone Boulevard, said Drewery.

One lane is open to traffic in alternating directions, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation Hampton Roads District. VDOT warned drivers to expect significant delays. UPDATE: According to VDOT, the incident is cleared.

The bus was a Virginia Beach Public City School Bus transporting students as part of an extension services program to the 4-H Center in Wakefield.

The driver, whose identity was not released, was charged with failure to maintain control.
