Cecil L. Porter Sr.

Franklin—Cecil Lawrence Porter Sr., 92, passed away July 11, 2013 in Raleigh, N.C. Born in Newsoms, he was a son of the late Willie Herman and Martha Cook Porter and was predeceased by his wife, Doris Lowe Porter; two sisters, Annie P. Hedgepeth and Bessie P. Seldomridge, two brothers, W. Marvin Porter and Ray Lee Porter.
Mr. Porter was a Navy veteran of World War II and a retired Dispatcher for the City of Franklin Police Department and former owner of Porter Grocery Store. He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and its Bruner Bible Class, Woodmen of the World, Franklin Volunteer Fire Department, Forks of the River Hunt Club and Franklin Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his daughter, Cecilia Porter Creech and husband, Wayne, of Raleigh, N.C.; his son, Cecil Lawrence Porter, Jr. and wife, Robin, of Charlotte, N.C.; sisters, Arie P. Wilkins and Lydia P. Griggs; three grandchildren, Jenna Creech Cash and husband, Josh, Aaron Porter Creech and wife, Jessica, and Kathryn Creech Mitchell and husband, David; and three great-grandchildren, Lucas Michael Cash, Lainey Paige Cash and Harper Grace Creech.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013 at Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Sharon James and Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and suggest memorial donations be made to Franklin Baptist Church, Lucia Baptist Church or a favorite charity. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
