FRANKLIN—Lorna Burkette Bryant passed away July 10, 2013, at age 87. Born to Ed and Daisy Burkette on May 9, 1926. in Bertie County, N.C., she was raised with her four older sisters in North Carolina but made Virginia her home for over 65 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. T. “Pete” Bryant. She left three children as her legacy: Sandra Bryant Halsey, husband, Bill, Emily Bryant Meadows, and Anthony Thomas “Andy” Bryant, wife, Jane. She was blessed with four grandchildren: Bryan Halsey, wife, Christy, Dana Halsey Banwart, husband, Jason, Hudson Dean Bryant, and Jamie Lynn Bryant. Great-grandchildren are Mason and Ashlynn Halsey, and Ryan and Andrew Banwart. She was a “Stay-at-Home-Mom” taking care of cooking, cleaning and lovingly raising three children to be responsible citizens. She was a longtime member of Franklin Baptist Church and served in many roles of church life and Sunday School.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, at Franklin Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sharon James officiating. Interment will follow at Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at The Village of Woods Edge following the service and suggests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to The Village at Woods Edge Employees Christmas Fund, 1401 N.
