COURTLAND–Despite an early shower, Courtland Baptist Community Day drew almost 150 people.

“Only one event, the miniature horses, had to be cancelled,” said Pastor Don Solomon. “We thought they would come back later in the day, but they didn’t make it.”

Held at the Courtland Baptist Fellowship Building parking lot on Main Street in Courtland, the event is a ministry outreach, he said.

“We want people to know it doesn’t matter who they are, they’re welcome at our church and in the community,” Solomon said. “This is a way for us to get to meet more people, talk to them, pray with them and invite them personally to attend some of our services.”

The event had something for everyone.

“Aside from the children’s activities, like a moon bounce, face painting and balloon sculpting by Coach the Clown, pitching games, arts and crafts, and small riding vehicles, there was entertainment for adults, as well,” he said.

The cakewalk was quite popular, as were the fire trucks from both Courtland and Boykins. Topping off the festivities were free hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecue and beverages. Snow cones were a hit with both adults and children.

Solomon said the church has held events like this four or five times in the past.

“But I think it’s safe to say, starting now, they’ll be held annually,” he added. “They’ve always gone over well, and it’s a good way to bring the community together. I saw a number of people who are not members of our church.”
