Amos Drewry Dunn

Amos Drewry Dunn, 85, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nagha Whitby Dunn; three sons, Drew Dunn, Steve Dunn and wife Deborah, Jimmy Dunn and wife Mary Annette; six grandchildren, Kristin Hylton and husband Paul, Jessie Dunn, Cody Dunn and wife Kelsey, Jay Dunn, Mac Dunn and Samantha Dunn; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dunn was the son of the late Robert J. and Edna C. Dunn and was also preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. He was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including Sunday school teacher and superintendent, Deacon, Treasurer and was a faithful member of the choir for many years. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Midway during the Korean War. Mr. Dunn retired as County Executive Director with the ASCS (now the Farm Service Agency) where he served for thirty-two years. He was a charter member of the Joyner Gray Yale Ruritan Club and was an avid baseball fan and fisherman. He was noted for his accomplishments as a gardener and was especially fond of spending time with his family, traveling with his wife and treasured his role as a grandfather.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 28 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Road, Jarratt, Virginia. A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29 at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Mother Doris White peacefully transitioned from labor to reward on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 in Norfolk.

A Homegoing Celebration in honor of her life will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the Garden of Prayer Worship Center, 1001 Church Street, Norfolk, VA. Her mortal frame will be laid to rest in the serenity of Carver Memorial Cemetery. Remains will lie in repose for viewing one hour prior to the services.
