COURTLAND—The Southampton County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a home burglary that took place earlier this week, and is asking that anyone with information please call the Crime Line.
According to Sheriff’s Department spokesman Major Gene Drewery, the break-in took place Tuesday, in the 36000 block of One Mile Road in the Burdette area.
The resident left his home that morning at 10 and returned at 2:30 p.m. only to discover the glass in a door had been shattered. The authorities were called and on arrival searched the home to make sure nobody was on the premises.
The investigation led to discovery of the theft of several pieces of jewelry valued at approximately $200 and 16 mint sets (coins wrapped in plastic) valued at $200.
Neighbors disclosed that they had seen a small four-door white car in the area, possibly a Toyota or a Honda, with a rear wheel area that was blackened with either mud or a sticker.
Drewery asks that if anyone has any information in connection to the theft or the vehicle in question to call the Sheriff’s Department at 653-2100 or the Crime Line at 653-2900.
