Possible hazardous weather could affect area this afternoon

WAKEFIELD—The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the entire area this afternoon and evening until 10 p.m.
A strong cold front will pass through the region and the primary threat will be damaging winds and large hail, with isolated tornadoes possible.
Also a Flood Warning continues through tomorrow for the Chowan Basin including Sebrell and Franklin, as well as the Blackwater River above Franklin. Some minor flooding has occurred, and is expected to continue through tomorrow. A portion of Joyner’s Bridge Road is flooded.
According to the National Weather Service, at 9:45 a.m. today, the river stage was 12.8 feet and flood stage is 10.8 feet. It is expected to fall below flood stage by tomorrow-early afternoon.
