Blackwater River under flood warning [Update: Some area roads closed]

FRANKLIN—The Blackwater River above Franklin is under a flood warning,

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning from Monday through Friday.

At 9:45 a.m. Monday, the river’s stage was 10 feet and minor flooding was forecast. Flood stage is 10.8 feet.

The Blackwater was expected to rise above flood stage by Monday evening and will continue to rise to near 11.2 feet by early Wednesday and fall back to normal levels by Friday. When downtown Franklin flooded in 1999, the river rose 26.27 feet.

The following roads are being affecting by flood conditions in Southampton County, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Rt. 614E (Southampton County) at Seacock Chapel Rd
Description: On Rt. 614 (Seacock Chapel Rd) in the County of Southampton, in the vicinity of New Rd; Rt. 622E/W (Southampton County), motorists can expect potential delays due to standing water. The east through lanes are closed. The west through lanes are closed.
