FRANKLIN—Evelyn Spiers Gregory, 80, passed away June 1, 2013. Born in Sussex County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Francis and Lady Tatum Spiers and was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Thomas E. Gregory. Mrs. Gregory was a 1953 graduate of the Louise Obici School of Nursing and began her nursing career at Obici Hospital and later worked at Union Camp Corporation. She retired from Southampton Memorial Hospital where she was a nurse supervisor. Mrs. Gregory was a member of Franklin Baptist Church where she was a member of the Faithful Worker’s Sunday School class, the Senior Circle and the 39er’s Club. She was well known for her random acts of kindness, her hardworking disposition and her absolute devotion to her family and her job.
Survivors include her son, Thomas F. “Tom” Gregory of Richmond; her daughter, Tracy G. Lindsey and her husband, Ty, of Callaway, MD; beloved “Ga-Ga” of Zachary Thomas Lindsey and three grand dogs, Ladye, Roscoe and Luke.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Franklin Baptist Church with the Rev. Sharon James and Rev. Brent Kimlick officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, Franklin Baptist Church or Hospice of Virginia.
