According to Virginia Beach police, Ryan David Brouckaert, 36, of the 300 block of N. College Drive, has been charged with two counts of Malicious Assault, Credit Cart Theft and Fraud and Defrauding an Innkeeper.

Virginia Beach police officers responded to the Calypso Bar & Grill, located at 1101 Atlantic Avenue, at 2 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, in reference to a suspect with a knife.

When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect was being held down by employees of the bar and several patrons. Brouckaert allegedly attempted to leave without payment. According to the Virginia Beach police, “When confronted by staff about his credit card, the suspect produced a knife and ‘slashed’ two patrons.”

It was reported that the patrons were trying to help and were cut on their hands.  One victim was transported to an area hospital for a severe laceration to his hand.  The second victim was transported by a friend to an unknown location.

Brouckaert remains in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
