NEWSOMS—Southampton County Sheriff’s deputies, with assistance from the Virginia State Police and the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency, served a search warrant at a residence in the 25000 block of Greenbriar Drive in Newsoms Tuesday afternoon.

At 2:37 p.m., a warrant was served and according to Sheriff’s Department spokesman Major Gene Drewery, the warrant was issued to search for marijuana plants, loose marijuana, items use to grow marijuana, documents and firearms.

Drewery said that upon entry to the residence, an inside marijuana grow operation was discovered. Items seized included 99 plants, loose marijuana, buckets, scales, a pistol and ammunition. The estimated street value of the plants is $297,000.

The search warrant is part of an ongoing investigation. No one has been charged at this time.
