FRANKLIN—Volunteers at the Ruth Camp Campbell Library in Franklin were treated to a mid-afternoon luncheon of Southern comfort food on Tuesday. The meal, which included, of course, fried chicken and deviled eggs, was presented as a gesture of thanks for service.

“They do so much for us,” Bonnie Roblin said of the many volunteers. She manages this branch, which is part of the Blackwater Regional Library in Western Tidewater.

Donna Pope coordinates the adult and teen volunteers as part of her responsibilities. She’s the public service manager, which Pope said includes moving the library forward for what it can do for the public. The circulation desk staff is also under her umbrella, she added.

“I like serving people,” Pope said, explaining that this month marks her ninth anniversary at the library. The job came open, she applied and got it.

“It’s just my cup of tea,” she said.

Asked what she’s read recently, Pope listed “The 12th of Never,” “Private Berlin” and “Gone Girl.”
