FRANKLIN—An S.P. Morton Elementary School student’s musical talent recently earned her a big check.

Mesha Bullock of Franklin, 9, impressed judges at the Conway’s Got Talent in Conway, N.C. The contest was part of the town’s centennial celebration last weekend. Bullock, who was one of three finalists out of 34 contestants, sang “Go” by Shirley Caesar and “Alleluia” by Stephen Roberts to become the winner.

Bullock is the daughter of Shayna and Rahime Bullock, and granddaughter of Winfred and Joyce Ralph, all of Franklin.

Ralph also said that her granddaughter is giving some of the prize money to her church, New Middle Swamp Baptist Church in Corapeake, N.C. “I’m teaching her to tithe,” said the grandmother, adding that some is being saved for college.

“She got the golden ticket,” said Joyce Ralph, adding that Bullock hopes to audition for The Hurrah Players’ next production of “The Wiz.”
