FHS baseball team wins two in a row

FRANKLIN—The Franklin High School baseball team defeated Sussex Monday by a score of 6-5.

Grant Scarboro was the winning pitcher, throwing six strike outs and pitching all seven innings.

Scott Davis , J’Corey Williams, Tevin Sumblin, Masco Barrett, Grant Scarboro and Duncan Trotter all scored. Franklin was up 4-1 after five innings. Then Sussex scored four runs in the sixth to make the score 5-4 and Franklin came from behind to score two in the seventh to win the ball game. “It’s was a great win for the Broncos,” said Coach David Lease.

On Wednesday, the team defeated Surry 8-4.

Tevin Sumblin pitched the entire game and had four strikeouts. Micheal Edwards and Justin Hansford each scored once and J’Corey Williams, Tevin Sumblin, Grant Scarboro all scored twice. Surry took the lead 3-0 at the end of the third inning, but Franklin made the score 3-2 after fourth. The Broncos then scored four runs in the fifth to make the score 6-3, with Franklin leading.

Surry then scored in the sixth inning to make it 6-4. The Broncos added two more runs in the in the sixth to make it 8-4, playing solid defense in the seventh to hold the score and take the win.

Coach Lease said, “It was a great team win.”

The Broncos will take on Windsor Friday night under the lights starting at 7 p.m. and the tournament starts Monday May 20 at Franklin starting at 4:30 p.m.
