Wolford, Byron Glenn

RICHMOND—Wolford, Byron Glenn “BG” 85, of Richmond, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013. Born in Cabins, West Virginia on April 5, 1928, he was the son of the late Oscar Obed and Effie Moyers Wolford. He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 63 years, Eunice Schramm Wolford; Byron is also survived by two sisters, Joann Wolford Dale of Franklin, NC and Grace Wolford Garner-Atkins (Tom) of Suffolk, VA and his brother James Braddock Wolford (Pat) of West Point, VA. He was preceded in death by his brother Gene Vernon Wolford. Byron is also survived by a lot of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews who thought of him as a father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great- great grandfather.

He served his country during the Korean War-era in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a Corporal, having trained for duty aboard the USS Oriskany as a member of the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines. He retired from Reynolds Metals Company after 32 years as a Plant Engineer, Plant Manager and Technical Director.

He was a graduate of Chuckatuck High School in Chuckatuck, VA, the NNS&DD Apprentice School in Newport News, VA, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA and the University of Richmond School of Business Administration.

He was a member of River Road Church, Baptist for 50 years. He also was a member of the River Roadsters, the American Legion Post 186 where he served as Lt. Commander, Greater Richmond “GT” Alumni Club, NARFE 2265, the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, Stonehenge Golf and Country Club where he enjoyed many rounds of golf with his fellow members of the Senior Men. He and Eunice, above all else, enjoyed the quiet time spent on their farm in West Virginia; summer fishing, biking on their trails, and enjoying the summer vegetables and fruits with his great friend Dayton, hunting in the fall with his nephews and great nephews and the magnificent fall scenery from their porches.

A memorial service will be held at River Road Baptist Church, 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Interment will be in West Virginia at a later announced time.
