Raiders teams advance

SA junior shortstop Tonee Hill is about to connect on a pitch in the first inning of the Raiders’ first round game against Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot on Tuesday. COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy baseball and softball teams will both compete in the semifinal rounds of their respective Virginia Commonwealth Conference tournaments today. Both games will be played at Kenston Forest in Blackstone.
The Raiders’ baseball team, fresh off a 5-inning no hitter by Jacob Holland that keyed a 10-0 win over Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot on Tuesday, will face Tidewater Academy at 4:30 p.m. Tidewater defeated Richmond Christian 18-5 on Tuesday to advance to today’s semifinals game. The winner will advance to Saturday’s VCC championship game to be played at Kenston Forest at 1p.m. As of press time, the other semifinalists have not been identified because of rainouts in other quarterfinal games.
The girl’s softball team, coming off of an 8-1 victory over Tidewater Academy on Tuesday, will play Brunswick Academy. Brunswick advanced to the semifinal by defeating Richmond Christian 11-0 on Tuesday. The game is also scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The winner will play in the VCC championship game, also to be played at Kenston Forest at noon Saturday, and face the winner of Friday’s Kenston Forest – Fuqua School semifinal.
