WAKEFIELD-Pastor John William Smith, 71, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013. He was the son of the late Clyde and Doris Casper Smith and husband of the late Margaret Ellen Smith. Pastor Smith was retired from Maranatha Baptist Church in Aulander, N.C.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Paul Smith and wife, Sandy, Kathy Britt, David Smith and wife, Susan and Kimball Smith; grandchildren, Timmy, Jennifer, Suzanne, MJ, Matthew, Audrey, James, Allison, Chris and Ashley; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Carroll Smith, Lewis Smith, and Kenny Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Ivor Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Charles W. Alvis. The family will receive friends at the home of David and Susan Smith in Wakefield. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel is serving the family.
