FRANKLIN—All former members and leaders of Boy Scout Troop 17 are invited and encouraged to help the committee planning the 100-year history by building an oral history.

These former leaders and members of Troop 17 are asked to come by any Tuesday night meeting of the current troop during May and be video recorded for posterity.

Committee chair and current Troop 17 assistant scout master, Tom Jones IV, says what they want from the oral history records is: your name, when you were in the troop, what was your highest rank and most importantly what is your fondest memory of scouting.

The Troop meets from 7-9 p.m. every Tuesday night at the new Scout Shack on the grounds of High Street United Methodist Church.

Jones said if you can’t get to a Tuesday night meeting during May, to please tape yourself and email it to Troop17.100th@gmail.com.

In celebration of 100 years of continuous existence, a weekend celebration will be held June 7-9, when the new Scout Shack will be dedicated as well as other planned activities, including church services, camping and demonstrations.

If you know of a former Troop 17 alumnus, spread the word and ask them to email the troop to help the historians gather information.
