Sgt. Storm, 52, died Sunday, when the motorcycle he was driving ran off the road on Walters Highway, ejecting him.

The funeral will be held in Suffolk at 1 p.m. at Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church, 3488 Godwin Blvd.

The family will see visitors Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home on South Church Street in Smithfield, said the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s office.

Burial will take place in a private, family-only service.

The single-vehicle crash took place at approximately 4:17 p.m., Sunday, at the 30000 block of Walters Highway (Route 258).

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s office said the department “is in deep mourning at the loss of a devoted friend and fine public servant.”

According to the Virginia State Police, Storm, of Windsor, was driving a 1999 Yamaha VMX12, traveling northbound on Route 258, when he lost control, ran off the road and was ejected from his motorcycle.

Storm joined the IOW Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy in 1995 and was promoted to sergeant in 2000. He had been serving as an administrative sergeant and crime prevention specialist in the department.

Virginia State Police continue to investigate the accident. According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, the highway was closed in both directions near Hunt Club Road for about five hours and re-opened again at approximately 9 p.m.
