Mildred Cherry Carter

FRANKLIN—Mrs. Mildred Cherry Carter of Washington Avenue, Franklin, Va., peacefully departed this life on March 20, 2013 in her home. She was born in Bertie County, N.C., May 14, 1930, to Duncan and Ada Outlaw Cherry.

She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Chorus, Mass Choir, Missionary Choir and the Hospitality Committee. Mildred was also a member of the Martin Luther King Choir.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Booker T. Carter, Sr. She is survived by three daughters, Ellen Carter, Phyllis Woodley, Mary Everett (Lorenza); one son, Booker T. Carter, Jr.; two sisters, Mary Parker and Ruby Bunch; two brothers, James Cherry and David Cherry; twenty-four grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and many cousins.

A service of triumph was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2013, Piney Grove Baptist Church, 1071 Carrsville Hwy., Franklin, Va., with the pastor, Reverend Alfred Brown, Sr. delivering the eulogy. The committal and benediction was in Southview Cemetery.
