COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy soccer team improved to 6-0 after the Raiders defeated Fuqua School 5-1 on Friday.

“Just really proud of the way our players responded,” said SA Coach Jamie Weist. “Fuqua is a talented team and the game was very close until mid-way through the second half.”

“Starting 6-0 is awesome,” he continued. “We have our sights set on improving our play each game – as a team – to put ourselves in position to finish the season strong in the conference tournament.”

Leading for the Raiders were senior Zach Best with two goals and three assists. Sophmores Russell Balance and Adam Setchel and eighth grader Emery Weist scored one goal a piece.

“We have strong depth coming off of the bench this season, which has allowed us to give our starters a breather during the match,” Weist said.

The undefeated Raiders are scheduled to host Isle of Wight Academy at 4 p.m. today, March 25.
