COURTLAND—Melissa Edwards, a fine arts teacher at Southampton High School, was named Southampton County Public School’s 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year.

During the Annual Teacher of the Year Luncheon at the high school, Edwards received The Golden Apple Award, gift certificates and other awards. She will advance to the Virginia Department of Education’s State Teacher of the Year Competition.

Teachers of the Year from each school also were recognized during the luncheon. They were Meghan Ashburn for Meherrin Elementary, Kimberly Belcher for Riverdale Elementary, Karitta Page for Southampton Middle School, Tanieka Ricks for Capron Elementary and Lynn Varian for Nottoway Elementary. All received The Red Apple Award and gift certificates.
