NEWSOMS—On Wednesday, February 27, 2013, God called home one of his beloved and faithful servants for eternal rest.

Catherine Marie Harris Grant, “Cathy” as she was affectionately called, was born on October 3,1950, to the late Mattie Elorora Boone Harris and Robert Lee Hill Sr. in Newsoms, Va.

Catherine gave her life to Christ at an early age and joined Deliverance Mission in Newsoms, Va.

On February 16, 1967, she united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, the late Claude Earl Grant. Their union produced three children Bobbie, Betsy and Sherita.

In marriage, she attended Piney Grove Baptist Church. Later on in life, she joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Curtis Mitchell.

Catherine had found a love for putting together jigsaw puzzles and working crossword puzzles. She also had a love for plants inside and outside the home. For many, the precious hands that prepared homemade preserves and the best sweet potato pies will greatly be forever missed.

She was preceded in death by one sister and five brothers.

She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Bobbie Grant (Denice) of Franklin, Va; two daughters, Betsy Grant-Saunders (Kenneth) of Newsoms, Va., and Sherita Grant of Franklin, Va.; seven grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Lewis, Keamber, Latrell, Jaleel, Tyler, Kenneth and Mathais; one great-grandchild, Kamryn R. Grant-Flythe; five sisters, Lue Elven Towns of Courtland, Va., Anna Mae Rawling (George) of Boykins, Va., Mary Harris of Smithfield, Va., and Linda Whitehead and Elsie Harris of Newsoms, Va.; and four aunts, Mary Porter and Betty Ponton of Chesapeake, Va., Susie Worrell of Franklin, Va., and Essie Benns of Severn, N.C. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church on Monday, March 4, at 1 p.m. officiated by Rev. Curtis Mitchell. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
