TA girls advance in state semifinals

ROANOKE—The Tidewater Academy girls’ basketball team moved on to the semifinals of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III State Tournament after upsetting Roanoke Catholic 47-40 Wednesday.
The Lady Raiders will next travel to No. 2 seeded Wakefield School for a game at 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 1.
The Lady Warriors came into the tournament as the No. 6 seed with a 21-8 overall record. Roanoke was the No. 3 seed with a 21-7 record.
TA was down 11-10 at the end of the first quarter and 20-19 at the half, before tying the score up at 32 at the end of the third quarter.
Leaders for the winners were senior Cary Beahm who netted 30 points; sophomore Taylor Pruitt added 8. Senior Falon Williams led in rebounds with 9. Beahm and junior Sam Dunn added 6 apiece.
The Lady Warriors went 13-for-17 from the free-throw line.
