Franklin boys lose in quarterfinals

SURRY—In the quarterfinals of regional play on Wednesday, the Surry boys’ basketball team defeated Franklin 71-47.
Ranked No. 3 in the state, Surry came out hitting on all cylinders as the Cougars took an early 24-13 lead. The Broncos kept it close in the second quarter with a three-pointer from Corey Porter and trailed 39-26 at the half.
“We knew coming in that Surry was going to be tough,” said Franklin Coach Danny Dillon. “We were excited about the opportunity to move into the sweet 16.”
“Pressure really hurt us last time we played them, but overall the boys did a fantastic job breaking their pressure and traps,” Dillon added.
Surry maintained a 10- to 15-point lead, stretching it to 25 at one point. Franklin had a 15-4 run in the beginning of the fourth quarter.
The Broncos were led by Terry Warren with 15 points and Marcus Stephens dropped 13.
