Southampton Memorial Hospital to add in-house doctors

FRANKLIN—Southampton Memorial Hospital is enhancing its services, said Phil Wright, chief executive officer.
There will be three in-house physicians available for those without a regular doctor. There will be one available 24/7 because many folks don’t have a regular doctor, Wright said.
The Franklin hospital wants to establish an unbroken line of care, added Anne Williams, hospital spokeswoman.
Southampton Memorial also wants to add two new nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
The first phase of keeping electronic health records has also been established. Laboratory work and pharmacy transactions can now be viewed at portable workstations, and doctors can view test results from their office computers.
The second phase to be launched in about 18 months will allow patients to access their records.
Teleneurology, or telemedicine as it’s also called, has been established at Southampton Memorial. This involves cameras that enable neurologists outside the hospital to evaluate stroke victims brought to the emergency room.
There’s a 60-minute window for patients and timing is everything, Wright said.
