FRANKLIN—The Franklin boys’ basketball team has reached the region playoffs for the eighth time in nine years.

The Broncos at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, will play either Surry or Colonial Beach for the quarterfinal round of the Region A tournament. The game will be away.

Coming into the season, the Broncos were not ranked in the top 50 after loosing 11 players from last year’s squad. They are now ranked as one of the top 30 teams in the state.

“We averaged 64 points a game last year,” said Franklin Coach Danny Dillon. “We are excited about the improvements that these young men have made — overcoming injuries and inexperience to put themselves in a position to make a run.”

Surry and Colonial Beach are the top teams in the Tri-Rivers District and ranked in the top 10 in Division 1 at the state level.

“We got our work cut out for us, but Coach (Robby) Cutchins, Coach (Brenon) Artis and I pride ourselves on how hard these guys work and the love that they have for each other,” Dillon said. “This opportunity is just God honoring these young men.”
