Curtis Bland Cook

NEWSOMS—Curtis Bland Cook, 66, passed away February 4, 2013, at his home after a long illness.

He was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and the son of the late Robert Bynum and Ellen Davis Cook.

He was retired from Cook and Son Trucking Co. and a member of Newsoms United Methodist Church.

Curtis was a member of Newsoms Volunteer Fire Department, a former chief from 1973 to 1985 and was voted Fireman of the Year in 1983.

He was a 23-year member of AA.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Sandra Darden Cook; his son, Curtis B. Cook II and wife, Amy; two sisters, Sylvia C. Newsoms and Linda C. Porter and husband, Donnie; one brother, Billy Cook and wife, Patricia; and two grandsons, Trevor Bland Cook and Kyle Davis Cook, all of Newsoms; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Darwin Edwards, Rev. Kenneth Williams, and Rev. Jason Wise officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and suggests memorials be made to Newsoms Volunteer Fire Department or Boykins Rescue Squad. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
