WINDSOR—A Justice Chapman lay-up and foul shot with seven seconds remaining led to a 47-45 Windsor win over Franklin during a Tri-Rivers District game on Friday.

Chapman also led in scoring for the Dukes with 15 points. Romello McKiver grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds. Malcolm Greene, Quinten Winnegan and Tyler Fontenot played key roles on defense, said Coach Brandon Bossick.

Windsor went up 16-3 at the end of the first quarter.

“Hands down our worst quarter of the year and it cost us the game,” said Franklin Coach Danny Dillon “We missed 11 lay-ups in the first half, and you can’t win any game doing that.”

The Dukes led by18 at one point during the first half, and had a 28-16 lead at the half and 37-31 edge going into the final quarter.

Franklin took at 45-44 lead with 1 minute and 35 seconds remaining in the game. The Dukes fouled with 15 seconds left in the game, and Franklin missed the first of a one-and-one. Winsdor’s Austin McCaskey gathered the key rebound and called a timeout.

That’s when Chapman made the lay-up and was fouled. He hit the foul shot for the win.

“We never gave up and came back from 18 points down,” Dillon said. “This Bronco team is the youngest and most inexperienced I have ever coached, but they play with heart and get better with every minute and that’s all I can ask.”

Lowe led Franklin with 13 points. Corey Porter added 11.

Windsor will host Surry and Franklin will host Sussex, both at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5.
