SEBRELL—The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Nottoway River, but doesn’t expect any danger to homes or other buildings, meteorologist Mike Rusnak said Friday.

The river at 9:15 a.m. had risen to 13.7 feet and is expected to rise above the 16-foot flood stage by Sunday morning.

“We are not expecting a whole lot of issues in the affected area,” said Rusnak said, noting that portion of the river is surrounded by primarily flat farm land.

The NWS Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service indicated that minor flooding is expected when the river crests at 17.7 Tuesday morning.

At 18.5 feet, Hancock Peanuts in Courtland would be affected.
